Macmillan Cancer Support
A new telephone-based support service at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust that is aim to help cancer patients and their loved ones as they go through the period of diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
Launched on Thursday 23 May, the Macmillan Advice and Guidance Service (MAGS) is a partnership between Macmillan Cancer Support and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT). The new service works with cancer clinical nurse specialists to help patients and their family/carers with:
- Telephone-based non-clinical support and advice, with information, links and referral to cancer support resources and services
- Direct contact with cancer clinical nurse specialists and other clinical services - creating a more seamless service throughout the patient's cancer journey
- Appointment-related questions, including rescheduling
- Referral to support services and events like Living Well and Beyond/Health & Wellbeing, Macmillan benefits advice and Macmillan psychology support
The launch event was attended by patients, the head of cancer nursing, the matron for cancer services, cancer nurse specialists, and professional colleagues from Macmillan Cancer Support and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
